A Papier-mache Cat

Traditional Japanese papier-mache cats are very charming. The black part on the head is especially interesting because it looks like the bobbed haircut of a little girl. It makes me wonder why this pattern came to be.

日本の伝統的なはりこ猫はとてもかわいらしい。特に頭の部分の黒が小さな女の子のおかっぱのようでおもしろい。どうしてこんなもようになったのかとても興味があります。
